What an hourly rate should include
Two studios can quote the same hourly rate and give you very different rooms. Before you compare prices, check that each quote covers:
- Acoustic treatment, so the recording has no echo from bare walls
- One proper microphone per speaker
- At least two cameras, so the edit can cut between speakers
- Studio lighting that does not depend on the time of day
- Someone who checks sound levels before you start

What changes the price
- Hours booked. Recording time plus setup and a sound check. Packages of several hours usually cost less per hour than single hours.
- Crew. A room you operate yourself costs less than a session where a camera operator runs the shoot.
- Editing. Raw files only, or a finished episode with reels cut from it.
- Extras. Thumbnails, titles, subtitles and publishing help.
How many hours to book
Add the length of your episode, time for setup and a sound check, and a margin for retakes. If you record more than one episode, book them back to back so the setup happens once.
